MONROEVILLE, Pa. — A mother and her child were killed in a three-vehicle crash Thursday night in Monroeville.
The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. on Golden Mile Highway.
Police said Cody and Jennifer Sample were driving with their two sons when a pickup truck hit the passenger side of their car after slightly hitting another.
According to authorities, 28-year-old Jennifer Sample was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 7-year-old son, Daniel Eck, also died in the crash.
Cody Sample is in serious condition at an area hospital. The Sample’s 15-month-old son was unharmed.
Officials said the 65-year-old driver of the pickup truck, who has not been identified, veered into oncoming traffic after possibly suffering some sort of medical problem.
Dan Gwinn’s son was friends with Eck.
“I don’t know what to say, don’t know what he’ll understand. Seven years old, I can’t believe it,” he said.
“They were beautiful people,” said Jim Scott, the Sample family’s landlord. “They were just growing like a young family should. This is bad and not right.”
The crash remains under investigation.
