Munhall firefighter killed while responding to call remembered 20 years later

MUNHALL, Pa. — A firefighter killed while responding to a fire call 20 years ago was remembered Sunday during a memorial service at Munhall Vol. Fire Co. No. 1.

William "Spence" Marks was in a truck with several other volunteer firefighters on Aug. 5, 1995, when it hit a curb and went airborne, hitting parked vehicles and rolling to a stop. Marks died in the accident.

"I'd just like to thank them for remembering Bill all this time, giving him this special day," said Bob Marks, William Marks' brother. "He was just a good person. He was good to everybody."

Raymond Bodnar, Munhall's mayor of nearly 30 years, remembers receiving a call about the accident and recognized the importance of Sunday's memorial.

"This is so important, so very important, because if anything else, it shows gratitude for the dedication of these guys," said Bodnar.
