Neighbors of South Side house that collapsed concerned as debris continues to slide

Neighbors of a house that collapsed on the South Side two days ago are concerned that it’s still giving way.

It was Saturday afternoon when the house on S. 16th Street collapsed onto parked cars and into the house next door, just as the storm rolled through with gusty winds.

Fast forward to Monday, and there’s still a huge pile of debris.

Pieces of the house are on the sidewalk and parked cars, while the house is still on the move onto the adjacent house, according to people who live there.

Channel 11 learned the house was recently purchased and under renovation.

A neighbor two doors down said it’s an eyesore and a hazard.

“On Saturday night when I came home from work, you could hear it leaning in,” said Eito Thomas, a South Side resident. “And by the time I came back out on Sunday morning, yesterday morning, the stuff that pushed further into her yard — It wasn’t as far over.”

No injuries were reported.
