PIAA investigating fight between players during Clairton's championship game

HERSHEY, Pa. — Clairton’s PIAA State Championship game against Bishop Guilfoyle at Hershey Stadium took an ugly turn Friday night.

Bishop Guilfoyle had lots to celebrate about at Hershey Stadium, but their first state championship win was preceded by chaos when their undefeated opponents lost their tempers with just 22 seconds left on the game clock.

The behavior of Clairton’s football players has now come under scrutiny by the WPIAL, the PIAA and school administrators, who said such unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.

"That behavior does not reflect our school or community,” Clairton district officials said in an issued statement. “We hope our students learn from this experience and move forward positively."

Many Clairton fans were too upset and embarrassed to speak on camera about the display.

One woman summed up how most were feeling.

“The kids worked so hard; had an awesome season, then to throw it all away - undignified. That's a shame. That's what people are going to remember,” she said.

The PIAA said it will not release an official statement until its investigation is complete.  Meanwhile, both schools have promised their full cooperation.
