The Pirates starting rotation has taken a major hit as Braxton Ashcraft has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right arm discomfort. The move is retroactive to Sep. 7.
Ashcraft has emerged as the team’s top starting pitcher this season, his first full year in the big leagues. The 26-year-old is 14-6 with a 3.65 ERA in 28 starts. In 165.1 innings, he’s allowed 67 earned runs on 145 hits with 35 walks and 173 strikeouts.
The right-hander ranks fourth in the National League in wins, fifth in WHIP (1.09), seventh in innings, ninth in strikeouts and 12th in ERA.
