• Pittsburgh goes full Gotham to welcome back Pirates' A.J. Burnett

    PITTSBURGH - The city of Pittsburgh went full Gotham Thursday night to welcome Pirates pitcher A.J. Burnett back to the mound.

    Projections of the bat signal were seen on at least three downtown buildings from PNC Park.

    Burnett, who had been sidelined since July 31 with right elbow inflammation, is an avid Batman fan.

    Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto released the flowing statement, thanking DC Comics and Warner Bros. Entertainment for allowing the use of the bat signal:

    "On behalf of the City of Pittsburgh I would like to thank DC Comics and Warner Bros. Entertainment for permission to project the Bat Signal during tonight's Pirates game as we welcome the team back to Pittsburgh and A.J. Burnett back to the mound.

    "A special thank you is owed to Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull for sponsoring the Bat Signal projection.

    “Let's Go Bucs.”
