Pittsburgh Planning Commission votes through two new Strip District apartment projects

PITTSBURGH — A total of 263 more places to live are approved to be built for a short stretch along Smallman Street in the Strip District.

Today, the Pittsburgh Planning Commission unanimously approved two new multifamily projects for the Strip District.

The first to be voted on was a proposal by 2926 Smallman Street Associates LLC lead by principal Robert Mullin to build an 84-unit apartment building on what is now the site of a former natural gas fueling station.

The seven-story project, designed by Strip District-based Next Architecture, is proposed to include three mechanical parking carousels to meet its parking space needs in a relatively small site next to Mecca Fitness.
