Planned hotel at Rivers Casino expected to created more than 100 permanent jobs

PITTSBURGH — The Rivers Casino could soon be adding a new hotel to its property that would generate about 100 permanent jobs in the city.

Craig Clark, the casino's general manager, said the 200 to 250 room hotel is set to be built along the Ohio River, between the casino and the Carnegie Science Center.

"This is about jobs. It will take about 1,400 construction workers to build the facility, as well as 105 permanent jobs added to our work force," said Clark.

Officials told Channel 11 that plans are for the hotel to have glass walls on the first and second floors overlooking the river. If everything goes according to plan, the hotel will be up and running in mid-2017.

Traffic on the North Shore is not expected to be significantly impacted by the construction. However, before breaking ground, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board must renew the casino's license for three years.
