Police: Mom locks kids in hot car while she drinks at McKees Rocks bar

McKEES ROCKS, Pa. — According to police, a mother left her 9-year-old twins inside a locked car Tuesday night while she went inside a McKees Rocks bar to have a few drinks.

Investigators told Channel 11's Renee Kaminski that 40-year-old Ontreace Stevens went to Michael's Lounge on Singer Avenue around 9:30 p.m. while her kids were locked in the car with the windows rolled up.

Police said someone phoned in an anonymous tip that they saw the kids in the car while Stevens was inside having “a couple of beers and a shot.”

“We’re not absolutely certain how long they were in the car, but they were in the car. They were alone while she was inside drinking,” McKees Rocks police Chief Robert Cifrulak said.

When officers arrived, they noticed the car was hot and there was condensation on the inside of the windows.

“She said she went inside to order food. As a result of our investigation, she wasn’t ordering food. She was just drinking,” Cifrulak said.

Authorities said Stevens’ mother, the kids’ grandmother, picked them up from the scene.
