The robber displaying a large, silver semi-automatic pistol and was able to leave the bank with an undetermined amount of money, police said.
Several people who identified themselves as family members told police the man seen on surveillance video is Larry Knopsider, Jr.
"Unfortunately for him, he left behind some very, very good bank surveillance photos," said Connellsville Police Chief James Capitos. "If it's somebody local, he's going to be recognized and he was."
Officers went to Knopsnider's residence and identified him as the man in the surveillance footage of the robbery.
"I've been here almost 38 years, and the last time we had a bank robbery was in 1978. It's not something we normally have,” Capitos said.
The FBI and Pennsylvania State Police are assisting with the investigation.
