Seton La-Salle football team honors alum killed in Oakland shooting

MT. LEBANON, Pa. — Members of the Seton La-Salle High School football team are honoring a former player who was fatally shot last month in Oakland, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Kevin Gorman reports.

Zachary Sheridan, 25, a former football star at Seton La-Salle, was shot and killed on South Bouquet Street on Aug. 3.

The current Seton La-Salle team wanted to remember Sheridan, so the decision was made to wear his initials on the back of their helmets.

Senior and team captain Tommy Rizza wanted to take things one step further, so he decided to wear Sheridan's number.

"As a team captain I just thought I should do something for him and his family, and that was to wear his number," Rizza said.

Rizza scored four touchdowns in last week's season opener while wearing Sheridan's old number.
