SHARPSBURG, Pa. — A Pittsburgh-area bar owner was charged with simple assault in connection with a brawl at his business early Sunday morning.
Sharpsburg police said dozens of people were fighting at Big Pat's bar on Main Street. When police arrived, they said they had to use a stun gun on owner Walter Rogowski, 40, who was swinging a pool cue.
"My officers said this was probably the biggest bar fight they've ever seen," said Sharpsburg police Chief Leo Rudzki.
Rudzki said more than two dozen customers were in the bar when the fight began.
Rogowski's friends said the fight started when he tried to stop a drug deal in a bathroom and some friends of the participants started a fight while playing pool. They said they expect he'll be exonerated by the bar's security video.
Liquor Control Board officials released a statement on Monday saying, "Big Pat's was cited in 2007, 2010 and 2011 for selling alcohol with a license that was not renewed."
LCB officials said they are now investigating the incident. The District Attorney's office said Big Pat's is not on their nuisance list.
