PITTSBURGH — To help kick off the NFL season, the Steelers brought out local kids to play football.
Tuesday night, 200 boys and girls ages 6 to 14 took part in workouts, group drills and flag football games during the Steelers Youth Football Camp at Hazelwood Green’s new stadium.
It’s part of the celebration leading up to the Steelers’ first game of the season, facing off against the Falcons Sunday.
“We want to do things like this throughout the calendar year, have some free camps and clinics, but also celebrate the kick-off of the season for the Steelers and the Central Catholic home stadium,” said Mike Marchinsky, director of alumni relations and football development for the Steelers.
Each camper got a T-shirt designed for Steelers kick-off week.
Leaders say they plan to host more free camps throughout the season.
