The food bank hosted the 20th annual Empty Bowls dinner in Shadyside Sunday and welcomed a packed house for the annual exhibit.

Those in attendance were given a simple meal of soup and bread, but were allowed to take home a ceramic bowl with them as a reminder.

“The bowl they get to take home is to commemorate the event and also to remind them that people in our community are going hungry every day,” said Lisa Scales, of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Each bowl used in the exhibit was made and donated by a local student or artist.

The event was held at the Rodef Shalom temple in Shadyside.
