PITTSBURGH — Several students are being tested for MRSA at Vincentian Academy, a Catholic high school off McKnight Road with less than 300 students, officials confirmed to Channel 11 Thursday.
Sources told Channel 11 that two football players were showing symptoms of the contagious disease MRSA, a staph infection resistant to certain antibiotics.

While administrators didn’t respond to requests for more information or an interview Thursday, the principal emailed a statement, saying, “Nothing has been confirmed. There are a few students being tested."
“The school just notified everyone that they were being tested,” said Jean Byce, whose daughter is a senior at Vincentian Academy.
He said he doesn’t have any concerns and is glad school officials are being proactive.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of MRSA include bumps or areas that are red, swollen, painful, warm to the touch and/or accompanied by a fever.
Requests for comment from the Allegheny County Health Department weren’t immediately returned Thursday.
