Male taken to Western Psych after SWAT called to East Liberty home

PITTSBURGH — One person was taken into custody following a SWAT situation in East Liberty Tuesday morning.

Just before 5 a.m., officers were called to a home in the 200 block of N. Beatty Street for a male who had called 911 saying he was wanted by police. When officers arrived, he refused to exit the home, according to a Pittsburgh Public Safety report.

SWAT was called to the scene as the male had recently fled from police and made threats toward them, according to the report. He also had an arrest warrant for a domestic incident.

Negotiators were able to work with family and establish communication with him.

The male was taken into custody without incident just before 6 a.m. and transported to UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital.
