Police have charged a Westmoreland County attorney with stealing from a client.
Court records obtained by Channel 11 show a woman hired attorney Ashley Mae Lovelace to represent her in a divorce and custody proceeding in June 2025.
The woman claims a title company issued a $97,858.71 check for the sale of her marital home, which would be placed in Lovelace’s law firm account pending the proceeding.
However, she alleges that Lovelace’s bank wouldn’t accept the check, so another check was issued to Lovelace herself.
The woman reportedly tried to contact Lovelace for months afterward, but she wouldn’t answer. The woman even got a new attorney and filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s disciplinary board.
Investigators say Lovelace’s law firm account was actually a business checking account, and that she’d transferred the $97,858.71 into two other checking accounts, where multiple personal purchases and withdrawals were then made.
Online court records show Lovelace is charged with two counts of theft and receiving stolen property.
