WILKINSBURG, Pa. — It was an emotional day for many on Saturday when the Wilkinsburg High School Tigers took the field for the last time ever.
The school will close at the end of the school year after an agreement was reached Wednesday that will send all Wilkinsburg students in grades 7-12 to Pittsburgh public schools.

The team played under the Wilkinsburg name for the last time on Saturday and lost a close game to Serra Catholic, 23-20.
For those in attendance, Saturday will be remembered as a sad day.
“A lot of memories,” said Wilfred Dennis. “A lot of good kids, good people came through here.”
Many said that, despite the transition to a new school, they will always remember their time spent at the school.
“We are a little melancholy about it,” said Debra Short.
Regardless, the fans who talked to Channel 11 Saturday said they will continue to cheer for all of the students even when they’re at a new school.
