The impact of the crash sent the woman through windshield of the car and onto the front passenger seat. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and later died.

"She was extracted from the vehicle and taken to UPMC Mercy where she shortly thereafter died from her injuries,” said Scott Township Police Sgt. Jeff Skees.

Channel 11's Courtney Brennan reported the woman, who the coroner later identified as Meera Bali, was on her way to work, and was about 100 feet from her home at the time of the accident.

“We believe she was on her way to work. Neighbors say in nice weather she would take the bus to work,” Skees said.

There were traffic restrictions along Greentree Road near Green Orchard Drive following the accident, which happened shortly before 8 a.m.

Officials say an ambulance was on standby as they broke the tragic news to Bali’s 90-year-old bedridden mother.

Scott Township police were questioning the 22-year-old man who was driving the car, and they want anyone who may have seen the accident to contact them.

It could be several weeks before this investigation is complete.
