PITTSBURGH — Restaurant guide Zagat named Pittsburgh its Top Food City of 2015 in its annual list released Tuesday.
To compile the final list, the publication asked editors around the country to make a case for the city they believe had the biggest year in food by examining the caliber of new openings, award recognition and national media attention had by each, be it their home turf or elsewhere.

Of the top 17 cities selected, Pittsburgh came out on top, with the magazine citing several new restaurants that opened across the city, including Chaz & Odette in Shadyside, Station in Bloomfield and Whitfield, located inside downtown’s Ace Hotel.
“With its geography straddling both the East Coast and the Midwest (likelihood of poaching more chefs from those areas = high), this town is poised for even more exciting things in 2016,” New York-based writer and editor Alia Akkam wrote for Zagnat’s list.
Pittsburgh beat out major cities such as New York City and Los Angeles for the top spot.
