Man Beaten By Pipe In Lawrencville Home Invasion

PITTSBURGH,None — A man is recovering after being beaten with a pipe during a home invasion in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood.

The incident happened at an apartment that sits above a business along Butler Street late Sunday night.

Authorities said someone got inside the building and assaulted the 46-year-old man at about 10 p.m.

The victim told police he was sleeping in his second-floor bedroom and was awakened by two black men standing over him. The man said he pleaded for the safety of himself and his dog before throwing a lamp at one of the invaders.

That's when one of the men beat the victim with a pipe.

The victim said he threw a can containing $6,000 at the men, who then fled.

The victim was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and was treated for a laceration to the head.

One of the men is believed to be in his 20s. He stood about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed roughly 140 pounds. The man was wearing a red baseball cap and a red nylon coat.

The second man appeared to be in his 20s and stood about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds. The man was wearing a black baseball cap and a black coat and pants, possibly sweatpants.

Police said they found no forced entry to the residence. The victim said a former employee had a key to the apartment, which was unaccounted for.

So far, police have not made any arrests. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
