No Charges To Be Filed In Fatal Penn Hills Pedestrian Accident

PITTSBURGH,None — Police said an elderly woman pushing a grocery cart was struck and killed in a Penn Hills parking lot on Wednesday.

Officials said Mary Essiex, 79, died in the parking lot of the Giant Eagle supermarket on Frankstown Road after she was struck by a truck driven by an 82-year-old man.

Penn Hills police said the motorist was looking for a parking spot and didn't see Essiex. Investigators said the woman became lodged under the man's truck after being hit.

Officer Bernard Sestili said it was a low-speed impact and there is no indication of recklessness or negligence by the driver.

Police consider it a "tragic accident" and said no charges will be filed.
