Old Strip District Produce Terminal May Be Demolished

PITTSBURGH,None — The city of Pittsburgh is looking to make a fresh start with an old produce terminal in the city's Strip District.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority is proposing the demolition of about one-third of the Pittsburgh Public Market. By removing more than 500 feet of the building between 16th and 17th streets, the URA said it would open up the Strip District to the riverfront.

URA officials said the partial demolition would also add a residential building and mixed-use retail facility in the area.

"You want to keep historical aspect, but it's good to move forward and have mixed development," said Luke Treskovich. "I'm actually looking to potentially move here so it could be ideal for me."
