PIAA football playoffs: Championship games

PIAA Class AAAA State Championship:

Pine-Richland 41 -- St. Joseph's Prep 49

St. Joseph's Prep pulled off a 49-41 victory over Pine-Richland on Saturday night for its second straight PIAA Class AAAA football championship title.

Olamide Zaccheaus' interception of Ben DiNucci's final heave into the end zone officially sealed the Hawks' triumph, finishing an 11-3 season for Gabe Infante's club.

A little more than two minutes earlier, after Pine-Richland (15-1) had scored to pull within 42-41, linebacker Joe Dumond rushed DiNucci on the two-point pass, forcing a failed conversion that kept St. Joe's in front.

Sophomore running back De'Andre Swift scored four second-half touchdowns for the Hawks, including a 47-yard sprint with 1:49 left that actually gave the Rams a fighting chance.

PIAA Class AA State Championship:

South Fayette 28 -- Dunmore 16

Defending state champion South Fayette became the first team to win consecutive PIAA Class AA titles with a 28-16 victory over Dunmore at Hersheypark Stadium.

Junior Hunter Hayes rushed for a career-high 263 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.

With the victory, South Fayette (16-0) finished a second straight undefeated season.

The Lions have won 32 consecutive games, a streak that includes a 41-0 win over Imhotep Charter in last year's state final.

PIAA Class AAA State Championship:

Central Valley 14 -- Archbishop Wood 33

Jarrett McClenton ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns, and Philadelphia's Archbishop Wood continued its PIAA Class AAA football dominance with a 33-14 victory over Central Valley on Friday night at Hersheypark Stadium.

McClenton's efforts helped the Vikings (14-1) secure their third title in four years. Wood also defeated Harrisburg's Bishop McDevitt to win both the 2011 and 2013 championships, while it lost the 2012 final to Erie's Cathedral Prep.

Central Valley (15-1), champion of the WPIAL which a week earlier eliminated McDevitt, was denied its perfect season in its first PIAA championship appearance.

PIAA Class A State Championship: Bishop Guilfoyle edges Clairton for Class A football title

Clairton 18 -- Bishop Guilfoyle 19

District 6 champion Bishop Guilfoyle denied Pennsylvania's most productive offense to claim the program's first PIAA Class A football title with a 19-18 victory over uptempo Clairton.

Despite 212 rushing yards Friday by Clairton sophomore Lamont Wade, the Bears were denied on a fourth-and-goal opportunity from the Bishop Guilfoyle 6 in the waning minutes. Tailback Sam McCloskey's 12-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter lifted the Marauders (16-0), who held Clairton to 44 points below its season average.

The Bears (15-1), who won four consecutive PIAA titles (2009-2012), hit Hersheypark Stadium with national-best 940 points. McCloskey added a 22-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, and Bishop Guilfoyle quarterback Brandon Chadbourn also ran for a touchdown as the Marauders built a 13-12 halftime lead.

Chadbourn and McCloskey shared 122 of Bishop Guilfoyle's 158 rushing yards.
