PITTSBURGH,None — Fifty new taxi cabs are being added to its Yellow Cab fleet, according to the Pittsburgh Transportation Group.
A representative from the group said the cabs will be added over the next six months. He also said that as many as 100 taxis will be converted to be powered by propane fuel.
Jamie Campolongo, CEO of Pittsburgh Transportation Group said the expansion will cost about $750,000 and will begin with the conversion of cabs. A propane fuel center will also be built at company's garage in the Manchester neighborhood.
The company expects to have 360 cabs in operation by the end of the year. It has 350 employees, plus about 450 independent contractors.
"We are seeing and expecting significant growth in our Thursday, Friday and Saturday business," Campolongo said, because many young adults have adopted a philosophy of "don't drink and drive."
