Police Investigate Multiple Pharmacy Break-Ins In Several Areas

OAKMONT, Pa.,None — Police are investigating a series of break-ins at local pharmacies.

Investigators said the break-ins happened in Oakmont, West Deer and Lower Burrell. Police said they believe the thieves are after drugs.

In Oakmont, police said The Medicine Shoppe was broken into twice in two nights.

"They're just basically crashing through the window. Going in, in a quick manner and going and getting what they need and getting out very quickly," said Oakmont Police Chief Dave DiSanti.

DiSanti said in both cases, the thieves only stole narcotics such as OxyContin, Xanax and Vicodin. DiSanti said no money was stolen.

Oakmont police said they think the burglaries are connected to similar cases in Lower Burrell and in West Deer Township. Investigators said the cases are similar.

Police said they believe the thieves are a man and a woman who wear dark clothing and ski masks while committing the crimes. Investigators said in at least one of the burglaries, a fake 911 call was made to divert police away from the pharmacy.

"One of them was a serious domestic incident with a man with a gun. When they got there it was a vacant lot. So they were trying to draw police to a different area," DiSanti said.

Police said they do have some possible suspects but have not made any arrests.
