NEW STANTON, Pa. — A man accused of robbing three people at knifepoint at the same automated teller machine in Westmoreland County says he’s “mostly” innocent.
Channel 11 News was there Tuesday night as James Stonick was taken to jail.
“I did the last one. The other two I didn’t do,” Stonick said. “I’m sorry. I didn’t hurt her. My intentions were not to hurt anyone, and I didn’t, thank God.”
Investigators said Stonick used a butcher knife in the robberies at a First Commonwealth Bank ATM in New Stanton.
The latest robbery happened Sunday. Police said Stonick is seen on surveillance video wielding a knife and making a hacking motion at the victim, who then drove away, leaving her debit card behind.
According to police, this man has struck at least two other times -- on Oct. 1 and Oct. 8. In each case, police said the man uses a slashing and hacking motion with a large butcher knife.
But Stonich maintains that he's only responsible for the third robbery, and not the first two.
“He gave me information about the other two and said it was an easy way to get money,” Stonick said as he was placed into a state police cruiser and taken to jail.
