WILMERDING, Pa. — Authorities are looking for a man seen fleeing the scene of a fatal shooting Friday morning in Wilmerding, Allegheny County, authorities said.
Police said first responders were called to the 500 block of Airbrake Avenue around 11:30 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Rico Smith, 27, who had been making repairs to the outside of a home, was found at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said he was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
According to witnesses, a black man was seen fleeing the area after the shooting. Police said the motive for the shooting is not yet clear, but it is believed that Smith was the intended target.
The owner of the home where Smith was shot told Channel 11 News that she knew he had some run-ins with the law in the past, but said it was nothing that might lead to him being shot on her porch in daylight.
Anyone who was in the area of the shooting who heard or saw anything is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit at 412-473-1300. Callers can remain anonymous.
