LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA — Great hospitality makes you feel right at home and one Lancaster County business is doing just that.
Now that restaurant is cashing in on the royal treatment.
Dan Person didn't always love soup-- ham and bean soup was his least favorite of all.
So he created his own recipe, that required cooking the ham for 40 hours to keep the broth from being watery.
Now he's so proud of it. that if you visit his restaurant, Dan's Paper Plate at
, he may serve it to you-- even if you didn't order it.
Which is exactly what happened when he heard he had a table of guests from England. Dan says he just wanted "to give them the warmest welcome I ever could."
Anna Hall is from nearby Harrisburg and the guests were her relatives, one of which has connections. "Well, he pulls out the business card," says Hall, "and it has the Royal Warrant for Her Majesty the Queen. And [Dan] about lost his mind."
Deborah and Kevin Steward operate
. They asked Dan if they could serve his soup there. They call it, "Dan's Hearty Pennsylvanian Ham and Bean Soup."
Dan says, "I was just as happy that Pennsylvania was one there as much as my name you know. Because it's like 'My God' the people over there are going to be thinking about what we do over here and who we are you know. Boy that's something special!"
That means that now you can buy Dan's famous soup here or abroad.
