State police seek information in 1977 homicide of 15-year-old in Westmoreland County

SLICKVILLE, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police are asking the public for information related to the 1977 homicide of a 15-year-old girl, whose body was found in a wooded area along Route 819.

The skeletal remains of Joan Rasperger were found Nov. 19, 1977 in the wooded area in Slickville, Salem Township, police said. She had last been seen alive on July 6 of that year by friends at a field party in the area of St. Sylvester Church.

The Associated Press reported at the time that two boys checking animal traps discovered the body, which was nude.

Rasperger’s remains were identified through dental records and clothing found at the scene, but the person(s) responsible for her death remains unknown, according to a police news release sent out Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police Kiski Valley Station.
