UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man is being credited with saving the life of a roofer who fell while on the job in Lawrence County.
The hero, Jamie McElravy, told Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz it was around 12:30 p.m. Saturday when he heard someone screaming for help in the area of Moore Avenue in Union Township.
“I came outside and heard someone screaming, ‘Help me, help me, call 911,’” McElravy said.
When McElravy found the guy, he was hanging upside down by his tool belt from a ladder.
“I ran over, climbed up the ladded and help him up for, like, 10 to 15 minutes,” McElravy said.
McElravy said he called 911 and climbed up the ladder to hold the guy up for about 15 minutes while they waited for emergency crews to arrive. McElravy said his arms were shaking and the roofer’s were going numb by time crews arrived.
“I just told him, ‘Hang on, help is on the way,’” McElravy said.
McElravy smiled as he said officials told him he was key in saving the man’s life. He said that felt good.
“It feels pretty good to do something like this,” McElravy said.
