PITTSBURGH — A man was taken into police custody Tuesday morning in connection with an earlier bank robbery in Pittsburgh’s North Side, authorities said.
The robbery was reported about 9 a.m. at the WesBanco on Middle Street. Police said a man claimed to have a gun before he got away with money. A weapon was never shown.
Police said they stopped a man who matched the description of the robber a few blocks from the bank. He was taken to Pittsburgh police headquarters after witnesses positively identified him.
Police identified him as 28-year-old Joseph Virtue. Investigators said he still had a lot of the stolen money on him at the time of his arrest.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Virtue is in the Allegheny County Jail.
