PITTSBURGH,None — Channel 11 has discovered there are new ways to make money from your old electronics.
Cracked computer screens, old cell phones and iPods that just won't play -- many people have them.
"I change my iPod, and it freezes for no reason," said Toby Asanoll.
Target 11 consumer investigator Robin Taylor uncovered the places that pay for throwaways.
BuyMyTronics.com takes electronics from everywhere.
Owner Brett Mosley said he pays a wide range for the used equipment.
"For a majority of the models, I'm paying anywhere from $30 to $50," said Mosley.
Here is how it works: A person can fill out a form on the website. BuyMyTronics.com would then quote the person a price, and he or she would ship the electronic item to BuyMyTronics.com at no cost.
Mosley said it usually takes about two days for the check to arrive.
There are other new places to check out for money back on your throwaways.
Facebook just added Marketplace, an auction site where users can search for "local only" items if they don't want to pay for shipping.
Target 11 also found good prices for your junk at YouRenew.com. The company takes phones, cameras, computers and gaming systems.
Those interested can go to the website, type in the name of the device, answer four simple questions about its condition, and you'll find out how much it's worth.
The Palm Pre, for example, is worth $79. The LG Envy will get you $25.
