2 dead, woman injured after Knoxville murder-suicide

PITTSBURGH — Two men are dead and a woman was left in critical condition Saturday night after a murder-suicide in Pittsburgh's Knoxville neighborhood, police said.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. in a home in the 400 block of Bausman Street.

Police said 47-year-old Joseph Goldsmith opened fire during a domestic dispute, wounding the woman and killing her boyfriend, 46-year-old Christopher Dancy, before fatally shooting himself. Both men were found dead in the upstairs of the home.

Goldsmith and the woman were in a relationship at one time, police said. The exact motive behind the shooting was not immediately known.

The woman, who is 37 years old, was shot once in the chest and once in the leg. She was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition as of Monday.

Three children live in the home. Two of them were not home at the time of the shooting. The third, a 9-year-old boy, was hiding in the basement of the home and was not hurt. Police said the boy answered the door when the suspect arrived at the home.

Neighbors said they're thankful the children were not hurt, and their hearts go out to the family.

"They're very nice children. They're very polite," said Babe Druzik, who has been a crossing guard on the street for 30 years.

A Channel 11 crew at the scene reported a heavy police presence after the shooting. A man who works in the area said he heard several gunshots fired in rapid succession and said police were there within a minute.

Police said the investigation into the domestic-related incident is ongoing.
