Alexander’s Italian Bistro in Bloomfield closing after more than 60 years

PITTSBURGH — After more than 60 years, a popular restaurant in the Bloomfield section of Pittsburgh is closing its doors.

The owners of Alexander’s Italian Bistro made the announcement in a heartfelt goodbye on Facebook.

The restaurant shut down March 12 because of the coronavirus outbreak, but the owners didn’t say in the restaurant’s post if that factored into their decision to close for good.

The restaurant on Liberty Avenue opened in 1958 and was owned and operated by the Colaizzi families for decades.

Over the years, the restaurant served customers from different backgrounds, from everyday people to actors and politicians.

The owners thanked each one of their customers, as well as their employees, for supporting them over the years.
