Armed robbery suspect points gun at head of store clerk

SOUTH STRABANE, Pa. — Police are searching for an armed man who held a gun to a store clerk’s head during a robbery attempt in Washington County.

The robbery happened Tuesday just before 9 p.m. at the BP on Murtland Avenue in South Strabane.

Surveillance video shows the robber walking into the store wearing a Guy Fawkes mask.

The clerk was stocking the cooler when the armed, masked man walked up to her and put his gun to her head.

The video shows the clerk emptying the cash register and the thief running out the door into the residential area behind the gas station.

“It's mind-boggling because we've never had this problem before and I didn't even know anything about it. I didn't hear anything,” said Darlene Tragone, who lives near the BP.

Police asked some neighbors, including people at the Motel 6, to stay inside as they searched the area near Murtland and North avenues last night.

“Yes, the public was in danger due to the fact that he was running from police at that time in a desperate attempt to get away from the police,” said Detective Mike Schidlmeier, South Strabane police.

Because of the mask, police don’t have much of a description but they are hoping someone recognizes his clothes
