Attorney for local woman who accused Cosby of sexual assault says client ‘shocked and disappointed’

PITTSBURGH — Comedian Bill Cosby is now a free man after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his sexual assault conviction.

Hours after the 83-year-old was released, Channel 11 talked with attorney George Kontos who represents a local woman who accused Cosby of sexual assault.

“I think that even though she understood this was an eventuality, she was never the less shocked and disappointed,” he said.

Renita Hill claimed Cosby sexually assaulted her multiple times when she was a teenager in the 1980s. Her accusations were not part of the case against him. By the time she came forward in 2015, the statute of limitations had expired.

“From talking to Renita [Hill], she doesn’t in any way regret lending her voice to the chorus of women that came out to speak out against Bill Cosby,” Kontos said.

In the meantime, phones have been ringing off the hook at Pittsburgh Action Against Rape.

“Survivors, people needing some resources, people needing to engage with folks who knew what they were going through mattered,” said executive director Lisa Perry.

Perry hopes the court’s decision doesn’t discourage survivors from coming forward.

“Your voice matters. Your truth matters,” she said.
