Businesses help pay for security cameras to help keep Butler park crime-free

BUTLER, Pa. — The community is kicking in to help keep a Butler park crime free.

Last summer, Butler city police stepped up patrols after vandals hit Father Marinaro Park, causing more than $15,000 in damage, but now more eyes will be on this park.

Several businesses in the area, including the French and Belgian Cub, the Italian Club and the Elks have stepped up to pay for and install security cameras.

Four cameras will focus on the busiest parts of the park. They will be tied into a network monitored by Butler city police and will be operational very soon.

The city Council last night approved the purchase. The cameras will cost around $11,000.
