Child dies after car stopped on Parkway East gets hit from behind

PITTSBURGH — An 11-year-old boy was killed Thursday morning in a two-car crash on the Parkway East.

State police said the boy was a passenger in a Ford Focus that had malfunctioned and had stopped in the left outbound lane between Edgewood and Squirrel Hill around 6 a.m.

The Focus was hit from behind by someone driving a pickup truck, state police said.

The boy, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Children’s Hospital, where he later died. He was later identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office as Jaiden Childs.

The driver and a 17-year-old passenger in the Ford Focus suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup was not hurt.

State police said they are continuing to investigate.
