ChildLine called after alleged incident involving teacher, student at high school

OAKLAND, Pa. — ChildLine was called after an alleged incident involving a teacher and a student at Central Catholic High School.

The student's mother told Channel 11 she is terrified to send her son to school.

She spoke only to Channel 11 late Wednesday afternoon and accused a teacher of throwing a textbook at her son.

The alleged altercation happened in Oakland and involved a teacher and an 11th-grader.

"He was sleeping during class but there was a movie being played. Teacher wasn't doing a lecture, no notes taken, no test," she said.

When Channel 11 contacted the principal Wednesday, we were directed to the diocese for comment and at that time were told the incident between the student and teacher was investigated,
which included ChildLine being notified.

The director of communications went on to say, "The student was found not to have been physically harmed in any way. Corrective action was taken with the teacher. The matter has been resolved."

The mother asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation.

"I want my son to feel safe at school, that's what schools are for. Your child is supposed to feel safe going to school. He shouldn't be assaulted by a teacher or anybody," she said.

The mom said the teacher was only suspended for one day.

The family has contacted an attorney.
