City moves one step closer to building medical marijuana dispensary

GREENSBURG, Pa. — The city of Greensburg is one step closer to building a medical marijuana dispensary.

The proposed site is at a busy intersection and empty lot in the heart of the city.

"It's an open game for development and we welcome development into the city," said Barb Ciampini, planning director for Greensburg.

The city is partnering with Keystone Integrated Care to build a dispensary on East Pittsburgh Street.

Of the 52 permits approved across the state, it is the only one in Westmoreland County.

"It's a major economic driver for our city," Ciampini said. "We're excited to have a new development, but also a medicinal means waiting for something to help them feel better."

With help from the land bank, the developer would get the lot and the two properties east of it.

The proposal still needs City Council approval before construction can begin. A vote is expected to take place next month.

Channel 11 learned the dispensary could be in operation in as soon as six months.

"Anytime after that they can get a permit and I believe the state will have a six-month turnaround time, so they don't have a lot of time," Ciampini said.
