Coyote sightings put Moon residents on edge

Coyote sightings in broad daylight have been on the rise lately in Western Pennsylvania, and residents in one Moon Township neighborhood are concerned.

"You can hear them howl at night,” said Karen Jones. “You can also hear when they've caught an animal – it's a heart-wrenching noise."

Jones says she's been living in fear for the last several weeks after spotting several coyotes in her backyard early in the morning.

"They come up from the left side of our property, the tip of our property, and they'll exit from the middle of the tip of our property,” she said.

"They were staring at my pets. Me and the pets."

Jones took to Facebook to warn her neighbors.

"We typically see them around 7, 7:30 in the morning,” she said. “And that's the time kids are getting off to school and they're walking to the bus stop as well as the parents walking with their pets to the bus stop."

After Jones' Facebook posting, the comments started flooding in about coyote sightings across Moon and Robinson townships.

Channel 11 reached out to the state game commission for comment but did not immediately get a response.
