Nearly 100 Port Authority service routes canceled Friday

PITTSBURGH — Dozens of Port Authority of Allegheny County service routes were canceled Friday because of reduced staff due to COVID-19.

A spokesperson for the Port Authority said more than 100 employees did not work because of the coronavirus.

That number includes people who did not feel comfortable returning to work or have compromised immune systems.

Between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m., Port Authority sent alerts to riders canceling more than 90 service routes for the day -- trips into and out of the city.

However, officials said though Friday’s numbers were higher than usual, over the last few months they have been forced to take a number of buses out of service.
