Fayette County woman’s body found 2 months after car discovered along road

NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Fayette County woman who has been missing since January was found dead Wednesday afternoon in North Union Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Melanie Prokop, 62, was last seen Jan. 1. Her car was found in a wooded area along Jumonville Road in North Union Township the next evening.

Prokop’s last known interaction was with a police officer, whom she asked for directions. The officer helped her, but her family believes she might have gotten lost after that.

On Wednesday, Prokop’s body was found in a wooded area off Kennedy Road in North Union Township. The discovery was made by a man who was volunteering in the search for her using his drone.

It’s unclear if police suspect foul play in Prokop’s death.
