GREENSBURG, Pa. — The former director of the Westmoreland County Elections Bureau filed a lawsuit in federal court Tuesday, claiming she was mistreated and her civil rights were violated while she was on the job.
“All the treatment I received there by the commissioners, extremely toxic work environment, it was abusive, traumatizing,” said Joanne Sebastiani.
“This case boils down to a Civil Rights Act violation, a question of political affiliation,” said her attorney, Alexander Lindsay Jr.
Sebastiani had been on the job less than a year before she was let go. The lawsuit said shortly after she took over, she was contacted by one of the commissioner’s secretaries saying Sebastiani needed to change her political affiliation.
She said she was harassed after getting a concussion in a work-related injury, making her symptoms worse.
“My health declined through all of this and I still have symptoms now,” she said.
Channel 11 has reached out to Westmoreland County Commissioners for comment, but they have not responded.
