Local care network has had zero COVID-19 cases despite thousands of residents, employees

Nursing homes and other long-term care facilities have been hotspots for coronavirus cases in Pennsylvania, but not every one of them is seeing a lot of cases.

Quality Life Services runs 17 different homes in eight counties and hasn't had one client test positive for COVID-19. The company said transparency is key.

“To put it mildly, it has been a challenge. Being in the nursing home business, we are in the epicenter of COVID-19 crisis,” said Mary Yurek. “I think communication and transparency are the keys for us to navigate through this.”

Weeks before the state mandated anything, those centers stopped all visitations, tested employees twice a day and took patients temperatures and oxygen rates multiple times a day.

They also took to the internet to set up a COVID-19 tracking system, listing all facilities with real-time numbers from each facility – updated every day.

Officials told Channel 11 it’s remarkable considering the number of homes and people – 1,300 residents and 1,500 employees.
