Man shot, gets to hospital in car seen speeding through Pittsburgh’s South Side

PITTSBURGH — A man was shot early Friday morning in Pittsburgh’s South Side, just as police start boosting safety measures in that part of the city.

The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. in the South Side Flats neighborhood.

Officers saw a car speeding and being driven erratically as they responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the area of South 10th and Bingham streets, police said. They followed the car to a hospital.

A man who had been shot was inside the car, police said. He was in critical condition.

Investigators discovered that the shooting happened at South 12th and Muriel streets.

On Thursday, Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said the situation on the South Side has become dangerous. Gun violence is among the problems police are now working to address by beefing up safety and security measures.
