McCANDLESS, Pa. — The North Allegheny School District held a meeting Monday night to discuss school safety.
The meeting at Marshall Middle School was meant to inform parents and members of the community of safety and security measures, as well as about safety training teachers will be receiving.
Some parents want enhancements like metal detectors and a police force.
District officials laid out security measures they could take and an outside agency that trains staff was also there.

“I think that it's necessary. There are a lot of people nowadays that are too sheltered within their own community,” Erik Schlass, a parent, said. “They don't know what's transpiring.”
Monday night’s meeting comes a couple of weeks after some parents in the district demanded more safety measures.
"It shouldn't have to happen, but it's a great thing that it is happening. Kids are too damn important for anything to jeopardize their innocence," Schlass said.

"It's certainly very encouraging; they've spent a lot of time," said parent Emily Skopov. "They've spent a lot of effort and I believe their concerns are very sincere."
There's already a very thorough security plan in place, but the district is also exploring security measures parents have recently suggested.
They couldn't give away what's in that plan, but parents were informed about what's been in place for a while.
