Pittsburgh man dead after fight at vacation rental in Hawaii

HAWAII — A Pittsburgh man is dead and another Pittsburgh man is behind bars after a fight at a hotel in Hawaii turned deadly.

According to Hawaii Island police, the victim was 30-year-old Abhishek Gupta. Investigators said the cause of death was determined to be strangulation.

Police said 37-year-old Benjamin Fleming of Pittsburgh and 31-year-old Alexander Germany-Wald of Boston were arrested following the fight. They said shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday, dispatch was called about a man who was unresponsive and not breathing in Kailua-Kona. First responders started CPR on Gupta when they arrived, but those efforts “were unsuccessful.”

Investigators said the incident started as a verbal argument and then escalated.
