Pittsburgh mayor, Walnut Capital reaches agreement with controversial Oakland Crossings development

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey announced on Monday that his office and developer Walnut Capital have reached an agreement on the Oakland Crossings project.

The agreement more clearly defines the zoning and includes a section on public benefits that covers affordable housing and food access.

It also creates 250 union construction jobs, with Gainey saying: “This agreement is the first time a private developer has committed to using the Housing Authority Choice Voucher Program to reach inclusionary zoning requirements in Pittsburgh’s history.”

The mayor adds the plan now includes a grocery store to bring another food option to the area.

The planning commission — which will meet on Tuesday — will review the changes and make its recommendations to the city council.
